description | The paper is devoted to the study of the semantic structure of a correlative pair of words wide/narrow in Russian and English. Being the representatives of the category of space these lexical units are classified as the mostly active nominations. Both adjectives are characterized by non-uniform lexical compatibility, which is reflected at the level of their correspondences in other languages. In both languages they have a complex semantic structure and are characterized by a high degree of their metaphorical meanings, but the specificity of their lexical compatibility denotes the different ways of rethinking the spatial relationships. |
