II.ak munduko 200 hizkuntzetako (272 kontuan hartzen badugu hiztegiaren
bigarren argitaraldia) datu lexikoak biltzeko agindua zabaldu zuen. Urte hura
baino lehen argitaratutako euskal hiztegiak asko ez direnez, Pallasen hiztegia
euskal lexemak jasotzen dituen argitalpen lexikografiko zaharrenetakotzat jo
daiteke. Lan honetan argudio zehatzak ematen dira Pallasen euskal hitzen zerrendaren,
alde batetik, eta, bestetik, Manuel Larramendiren Hiztegi Hirukoitzaren
Eranskinaren (1745) eta Jean-Baptiste Bulleten Mémoires sur la langue
celtique (1754-1760) liburuan ageri den hiztegi zeltikoaren artean dagoen lotura
frogatzeko. Larramendiren lanak oso hitz-forma bereziak bildu zituen,
euskal tradizio lexikografikoan salbuespentzat eman daitezkeenak, eta haietako
batzuk, hain zuzen, jaso zituzten geroago Bulletek eta Pallasek. Testu kritikaren
errores coniunctivi gisara funtzionatzen duten forma horiek hiru
hiztegiak elkarrekin lotzeko balio dute.
This article deals with the lexicographic sources of the Basque words
contained in the most significant European multilingual work of the XVIIth
century, the Linguarum totius orbis vocabularia comparativa, by Peter Simon
Pallas, edited in S. Petersburg in 1786/1787-1789. In 1785 Catherine the
Great of Russia ordered to gather lexical data from 200 languages all over the
world (272 taking into account the second edition of the vocabulary). Since
before that time there were no many dictionaries of Basque, Pallas’ lexicon
turns out to be one of the most ancient lexicographic publications containing
Basque lexemes. Unequivocal data are provided in this paper in order to
demonstrate the connection existing between Pallas’ list of Basque words, on
the one side, and Manuel de Larramendi’s supplement to his Diccionario
trilingüe (1745) and Jean-Baptiste Bullet’s Celtic dictionary inserted in his
Mémoires sur la langue celtique (1754-1760), on the other side. Larramendi’s
work exhibits unique forms in Basque lexicographic tradition that,
significantly enough, were later collected by Bullet and then by Pallas, in a
sort of errores coniunctivi that allow us to link together these three
vocabularies. |
