Summary:Legionnaires’ disease is recognized as a common cause of severe community-acquired pneumonia. In this report the aim is to hold a discussion about the characteristics of four cases diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease at Baskent University Alanya Hospital in 2002. The cases were all travel associated. All patients had high fever, dyspnea and consolidation on chest radiography. Neurologic symptoms and diarrhea were present in two of four cases. The Legionella urinary antigen assay was used as diagnostic method of Legionnaires’ disease and seroconversion was revealed in two of four cases. All cases have recovered from pneumonia after clarithromycin + rifampin or ciprofloxacin treatment. The Legionella urinary antigen assay allows for early diagnosis and appropriate treatment Legionnaires’ disease caused by Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1.
