Summary:Digital coherent technology with advanced modulation formats such as PDM-QPSK has enabled us to increase the transmission capacity of optical communication networks.In this paper,a mathematical model is built for the IQ modulator.The effects of bias voltage and phase conditions are then analyzed.Finally,a fast and efficient method for testing the DC bias characteristic of IQ modulator is proposed.This method is demonstrated to be simple and accurate for IQ modulator as well as twin IQ modulator in the practical engineering application.
