description The objective of this paper, which is based on an ongoing MA research, is to analyze two characters from Hoje é dia de Maria (2005), the Coconut and the Vendor, from the play script to television, through Intersemiotic Translation and Adaptation. From the production presented on television the characters’ construction on television is studied considering the adaptation of the play script to television, and observing the verbal and nonverbal languages that are used in a combined way to adapt the text to television. The theoretical framework is based on Translation Studies, Intersemiotic Translation and Adaptation Theory, using Jakobson (2004), Hutcheon (2013), Plaza (2013), among others. For the analysis a parallel corpus was compiled with images and scenes extracted from the series and the play script published in 2005. The corpus was selected and organized through screenshots, videos and verbal text.  Results have shown the differences and similarities between Translation and Adaptation in the context of verbal and nonverbal language, causing reflection on how the adapted product is constructed, considering the particularities of the play text and its need for complementation through interpretation. Highlighting the characters Coco and Vendor it is possible to observe the characters’ construction in the script and the intersemiotic movement of taking these characters to the television in the process of Intersemiotic Translation. In parallel it is possible to reflect on the changes that the characters undergo in the process of adaptation
