Description
Summary:The purpose of this essay is to situate the weight of Catholicism in the culture wars that marked the nineteenth and twentieth centuries in Belgium on the basis of the transnational turn in the study of Catholicism. It analyses the deliberative spaces on secularism and religious pluralism, the actors, rhetoric and political dynamics of their legislative processes, as well as the battleground, with the school, the factory and identities as debates that marked the political fractures of the country at different historical moments, seeing in each of these cleavages the role of the Catholic factor.
