An ordered work to develop a system of continuous comprehensive support for people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) is being carried out in the Russian Federation. Since 2019 the Mental Health public project aimed at the development of the social and rehabilitation support to families raising children with mental disabilities has been implemented in the Volga Federal District (VFD). The Nizhny Novgorod Region is the first area which started to implement the project, which involves 5 regions of the Volga Federal District. Objectives of the project include various processes:early detection of ASD, training of professionals in various fields of interaction with people with ASD, raising awareness of effective care practices, including those for adults with ASD, organizing the work of resource centers; provision of medical services to people with ASD and their families. Some aspects of activities of the system of comprehensive care for children with ASD in the regions of the Volga Federal District are presented. Various fac- tors of comprehensive support to families raising children with ASD are considered on the basis of statistical data. From 2018 to June 2021 the prevalence of ASD in the Volga Federal District increased by 38.8%, and the provision of assistance to children with ASD and their families increased by 8.8%. The received data make it possible to assess the effectiveness and relevance of measures to identify and accompany children and their families as well as to plan further activities to organize comprehensive care for people with ASD reasonably. |
