description The education of the girls remained very reduced during a long time in Brazil. Colleges depending on religious orders are however founded in 2nd half of the 19th century, the Church intended to diffuse the Christian spirit by teaching. That creates a favorable climate to the arrival of teaching orders and the French nuns, being exposed to the anticlericalism, took advantage of the situation to settle there. Teaching that they exempt is of quality, even if it was very conservative.
