| Summary: | Given that Breton-speaking children are nowadays unfortunately quite rare, bilingual children in Breton and English must be almost unique. It seemed prudent, therefore, to take detailed notes on the acquisition of these two languages by my daughter Solena, who is now (May 1986) three years old. The starting point was this: we decided that the father would speak English and the mother Breton, because this distribution (one mother tongue and one father tongue) seemed to us to have the best chance of eventual success. The notes taken during my daughter’s language acquisition process are reproduced in this paper. |
