description The excavation of the Gungling (Moselle) site led to the discovery of a rural habitat occupied continually from the 9th to the early 16th century. Three principal occupation phases have been distinguished, mainly thanks to the abundance of pottery. The first period (9th to 12th century) is characterized by the presence of sunken huts, an area reserved for ensilage and cereal processing, a pottery kiln and graves. The second period (13th to 14th century) bears witness to a reduction of the built area and a modification of building techniques, with notably the introduction of sleeper beams and timber frames. The third period (15th to early 16th century) confirms the reduction of the built areas. Some modifications in the building and heating techniques are perceptible. The site is abandoned in the early 16th century and the land is henceforth reserved for agricultural use.
