description Aim: This study was performed to comprehensively and accurately denote and determine the corresponding Turkish term for the situations where the nursing care needed by the healthy / patient individual is not met, not given adequately, left incomplete, or missed partially or completely, and to identify its reasons and outcomes at the national level. Method: The study was carried out with the qualitative e-Delphi research technique. Data were collected in two rounds using the semi-structured Delphi questionnaire and email, from April to November 2021. The sample included 25 panellists in the first and 24 panellists in the second round. The opinions of the panellists in the first round were converted into items by content analysis, and in the second round, interquartile ranges were calculated to determine the agreed items. It was accepted that consensus was reached for the items with interquartile range of less than 1.20. Results: A consensus was reached on adopting the term 'missed nursing care' and it was defined as 'partial or complete failure to meet the nursing care needs of the healthy individual / patient including physiological, psychological and socio-cultural aspects because these needs are left unidentified, ignored, delayed, missed, skipped, neglected or undone.' It was agreed that there was eight intrinsic and seven extrinsic reasons, and a total of 28 outcomes, eight about nurses, 11 about patients, and nine institutional outcomes of missed nursing care. Conclusion: The intrinsic and extrinsic reasons and outcomes of missed nursing care were in line with the literature. The outcomes demonstrated that missed nursing care makes it difficult for nurses and institutions to provide quality service and is a problem that threatens patient safety. Therefore, it can be recommended to make preventive / mitigative plans for missed nursing care and to carry out comprehensive scientific studies.
