description | Producing clean energy by replacing fossil fuels with biomass produced by some woody and herbaceous plants is a necessity both in Romania and other countries like United Kingdom, USA, Italy, Canada, New Zealand, Japan, etc. Between 2009-2013 years, the University of Craiova - RSFG Valcea has conducted extensive research for the identification and evaluation of native willow selections which present a high potential for biomass production and resistance to major foliar diseases. The willow native biological materials assessed, had in generally a good behavior to specific diseases of the species. There were identified only fungal infections caused by Melampsora, Marsonia and Rytisma to ‘Arpaşu de sus 3’, ‘Pesceana 1’, ‘Gibeşti’, ‘Ladesti’. Copper-based pesticide treatments, thiophanate methyl and mancozeb applied at an early stage of the attack, ensured optimal phytosanitary protection for the plants. |
