Summary:In the paper the operation and the features ofa new three-level converter are presented. The proposedtopology was named 3L-ASNPC (Active-Stacked-NPC)and represents a combination between 3L-ANPC (Active-NPC) and 3L-SNPC (Stacked-NPC) multilevel concepts.The main advantage of 3L-Active-SNPC converter is thehalf reducing of the average switching frequency for allpower devices. In the same time, the apparent switchingfrequency of the output voltage is naturally doubled.Simulation and experimental results are shown in orderto validate the proposed structure and the analysis of theswitching states.
