Summary:Gaul’s romanisation has already been the object of a number of studies. Yet, certain aspects of the question have barely been touched upon until to-day. The evolution of the countrysides during late Antiquity thus throws a particular light on the scope of the process of acculturation that followed on the conquest and enables one to situate its developments in the more general perspective of the setting up of the city and the municipalisation as a vector of romanisation.
