Summary:This paper provides an analysis on the emergence of new technologies in the financial industry and their application to financial and investment activities, where organizations are highly equipped with the technology needed to overshadow traditional financial institutions. In addition, three of the most important and controversial areas of this sector -challenges, regulation and collaboration- are reviewed and analyzed in depth through a systematic literature review. VOS Viewer software has been used to classify the different keywords, according to their co-citation, following clustering techniques. Thanks to the studies carried out by other researchers, it has been possible to structure clearly the distribution and trends in the financial sector, mentioning also possible future trends and gaps to be researched in the sector.
