description In his Considerazioni sopra le Rime del Petrarca (Modena, 1609), Alessandro Tassoni deconstructs Petrarch’s love for Laura: the Poet is here depicted as some sort of foolish hypocrit that hasn’t been able to fulfill his (merely sexual) desires for Laura. This article aims at analyzing Tassoni’s materialistic conceptions, suggesting some possible connections with 17th century libertinism.
