description | At the intersection of Augmented Reality with Wearing Technologies, a new aesthetic paradigm is emerging nowadays. It is a new technical treatment of our sensitivity, somehow antagonistic to Virtual Reality. In the paper, I connect this paradigm to Google Glass, and propose a distinction between two trends of development. The first trend, which I call “Cartesian”, is characterized by a process of selecting and optimizing of sensitivity; the second trend, which I refer to Merleau-Ponty, makes the aesthetic performance be able to realize an intermedial dialogue between word and image. It is noteworthy that, from the point of view of the Cartesian trend, the “prism” of Google Glass is interpreted as a screen, while, from the point of view referred to Merleau-Ponty, it is rather interpreted as a prosthetic eye. |
