Summary: | Relevance of research. Nowadays dental morbidity is the most common among different age group diseases, and dental care is one of the most popular types of medical care, especially among children. This is because the prevalence of the dental diseases reaches 95.3% in children of the different regions of Ukraine. In this regard, the study of the structure of prevalence of caries and level of the dental health in children is quite important, because it will increase efficiency of the dental care and preventive measures for children living in a particular region.
The aim of the study. Study of the prevalence of caries of the deciduous teeth and dental care for children of preschool institutions of Ivano-Frankivsk.
Material and methods. To achieve this goal we examined 385 preschool children aged 2-5 years of Ivano- Frankivsk. For assessing the prevalence of caries of the deciduous teeth and necessity of treatment we determined the intensity of caries using index df. Separately we researched index of level of the dental care.
Research results. Analysis of the results showed that the prevalence of caries of the deciduous teeth of examined children is, on average, 89,32±1,35%. Characteristic of the prevalence of dental caries of the deciduous teeth was increased in the 2-4-year-old children (88,65±1,21% to 94,84±1,42%). In the 5-year-old children the prevalence of dental caries of the deciduous teeth decreases in comparing to the previous age group (82,11±1,29%).
During the study of the prevalence of caries of the deciduous teeth of examined children it was revealed that caries intensity is, on average, 3,17±0,48 tooth. Analysis of the separate components of the index df showed that the number of carious teeth (d) per one child is, on average, 1,81±0,21 tooth.
Part of the filled teeth is only 42,90±1.36% among examined children when the part of the carious teeth is 57,10±2.67%, which indicates insufficient level of the dental care. In determining the level of dental care in a group of examined children it was found that the index of level of the dental care is, on average, 42.9%. Moreover the highest value of the index (45.2%) was revealed in the 3-year-old children.
With the age, the index of level of the dental care somewhat reduced in the group of 5-year-old children, its value is the lowest (39.3%). However, despite of the slight variations in the different age groups of children, level of dental care in examined children was generally characterized as insufficient.
Conclusions. Consequently, the result of study revealed the high prevalence of caries with the average level of intensity of caries of the deciduous teeth in children of preschool institutions of Ivano-Frankivsk. The part of the teeth which are needed in treatment dominates on the filled teeth, indicating on the insufficient dental care in this group of children (level of the dental care = 42.9%). |
