Description
Summary:This article intends to examine relevant aspects of the semantic neology in the brazilians speech e also reflect upon the dependence that this kind of neology creates with the context and/or the world knowledge shared by the speakers. To observe this fact, we analyzed speech extracts from the column Entreoucido por a, from the magazine Revista O Globo. As the basis of our reflection, we used the studies of Alves (1990) and Barbosa (1998) about neologism. Through the studies of Borba(1990) on lexicografy and Martinet (1971) on language economy, we discussed polissemy and the productivity of the semantic neology process.
