Both scholars laid emphasis on the necessity of grammatical study and to try and understand what is written. Coccejus works out a system of interpretation of Scripture by accepting that God's revelation was given in different covenants of a progressive nature. It is important to consider history in each progressive step. In this he is followed by Vitringa. |
