Along with studying the real phenomenon of populism in theThai state it gathered information from key informants involved, politicians, academics, lawyers, social activists, and social media. The data was gathered by in-depth interviews. The results showed that political parties and politicians have builtup the populist process through public policy or law. These actions had different impacts on people’s understanding of populism. Populism in the Thai state imitated that in Latin America. The impact of the populist process on the Thai state in terms of society creates disparities. social class division and the emergence of more patronage systems.The economy generates a strong short-term economic stimulus. But it is also likely to incur public debt in the long run. In political part, the politicians use populism to win more elections. This leads to confrontation and conflicts between rural and urban people. In the social context, people hold the view that most people are satisfied with populist policies. At the same time, populist policies create a culture of selfishness rather than common benefit, and thus respect for the rules and for discipline of the people is reduced. |
