| Summary: | In the present western societies the human finitude is a restricted subject and removed from daily discussions. Cyberspace is an “alternative place” to embrace debates about the end of life. This article aims to reflect about the treatment of the death in Orkut’s community “Profiles de Gente Morta” (Profiles of the dead). It focused on an ethnographic study about the virtual community and observed 23 topics posted on July 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th, in 2007, from the dead people’s profiles during tragic and unexpected situations. <p><p>Nas sociedades ocidentais atuais, a finitude humana é um tema interditado; retirado das discussões cotidianas. O ciberespaço é um “local alternativo” para que debates acerca do fim da vida possam ocorrer. Este artigo tem como objetivo refletir sobre o tratamento da morte na comunidade do Orkut “Profiles de Gente Morta”. Focamo-nos na realização de um estudo etnográfico na comunidade virtual. Observamos 23 tópicos postados nos dias 17, 18, 19 e 20 de julho de 2007, referentes a perfis de pessoas mortas em situações trágicas e inesperadas. |
