Summary: | Workers continue to be exposed to an endless of hazards in their working
environment. One of the main hazards are the psychosocial risk factors. As Metalmechanic
workers are not the exception, the objective of this article is to analyze
the association between psychosocial factors and stress symptoms in this population.
The study was cross-sectional and descriptive. The sample was constituted
by operators of a metal-mechanic company located in Jalisco, Mexico. Three
instruments were used: a questionnaire of sociodemographic and occupational data, The Symptomatic Stress Scale and The Scale of Psychosocial
Factors at Work. The prevalence of stress symptoms
and psychosocial factors was 42.7% and 77.3%, respectively.
Values of signiicant association were obtained (p less than
0.05) in ive areas of the Scale of Psychosocial Factors and
the Symptomatic Stress Scale. Similar results have been
reported regarding the higher risk of psychosomatic disorders
when stress occurs. These disorders are twice as high
related to sleep disorders, anxiety, tension headache and
muscle skeletal diseases. Also, there are reports regarding
signiicant associations among the whole areas included in
the instrument of psychosocial factors and the manifestations
of stress. So, it is essential that organizations design and
apply strategies focused on decreasing psychosocial risks. |
