Sw. distributed well in Eastern Himalayan region, twenty six genotypes collected randomly from Kigwema village, Kohima (Nagaland) at an average altitude of 1538masl with 25.61 0N latitude and 94.35 0E longitude. A new chromosome count 2n=2x=32 has been reported for the Sechium edule genotype 24. Similarly, chromosome count suggested polyploidy in Sechium edule genotypes 25 and 26 and reported 2n=4x=52 (tetraploid). Both new chromosome count (2n=32) and tetraploid (2n=4x=52) are first report for the genus Sechium edule (Jacq.)Sw.
