Description
Summary:Sechium edule (Jacq.) Sw. distributed well in Eastern Himalayan region, twenty six genotypes collected randomly from Kigwema village, Kohima (Nagaland) at an average altitude of 1538masl with 25.61 0N latitude and 94.35 0E longitude. A new chromosome count 2n=2x=32 has been reported for the Sechium edule genotype 24. Similarly, chromosome count suggested polyploidy in Sechium edule genotypes 25 and 26 and reported 2n=4x=52 (tetraploid). Both new chromosome count (2n=32) and tetraploid (2n=4x=52) are first report for the genus Sechium edule (Jacq.)Sw.
