Description
Summary:Available gravity and magnetic survey data from the adjacent valleys of Villa de Reyes and San Luis Potosi, Mexico, are interpreted in terms of a Cretaceous basement. Magnetotelluric measurements help resolve some uncertainties. The basement is interpreted as a marine facies of the limestones found cropping out in the Sierra de Alvarez. The depth to basement varies between 1.7 km and 4 km corresponding to a sequence of block-faulted basins tilted towards the southeast. The magnetic data suggest a deeper magnetic basement which may indicate an underlying igneous or metamorphic unit at a depth of 3 to 5 km. doi: https://doi.org/10.22201/igeof.00167169p.1990.29.2.789
