The permanent signs of congenital toxoplasmosis include damage of the liver, enlarged lymph nodes and spleen, meningoencephalitis (with subsequent development of calcifications, seizures, hydrocephalus, mental retardation), eye damage. For prevention of congenital toxoplasmosis all women of childbearing age who are planning a family should be screened for signs of the infection.
