Description
Summary:This paper presents a reflection on the translation of the General Estoria from Castilian into Galician-Portuguese. For this purpose, selected excerpts of the Galician translation of the first part and of the Portuguese fragments preserved in the Torre do Tombo will be examined and contrasted with the Castilian version produced in Alfonso X’s scriptorium. Through the analysis of the translation strategies used and the comparison between the Galician-Portuguese and Castilian versions, we will assess whether and how the lexical and syntactic options of the Galician and Portuguese translators reflect different perspectives on the Castilian text.
