Description
Summary:The article exam- ines the derivational postpositional Greek formant μέηπον (Latin – metrum) as a popular mechanism for the formation of names of medi- cal and technical terms. The relevance of linguistic studies is due to the lack of a comprehensive narrow-focused analysis of terminological systems and subsystems of specific branches of medicine, in this case, diagnostic medicine. Research methods: descriptive, structural, com- parative, generalization of information data. Scientific novelty. For the first time, an integrated approach was applied regarding the linguistic characteristics of the Latin names of devices operating in the term “medical diagnostics”. Conclusions. The formant –metrum as a cogni- tive-onomasiological tool for codifying the concept of “measuring device” is the only mechanism for the formation of a group of terms united by the above-mentioned onomasiological att ribute.
