description The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. ICAN is a global coalition of non-governmental organizations in over 100 countries and was honored for its efforts to advance the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Beatrice Fihn has been the Executive Director of ICAN, since 2014. During her Nobel Peace Prize speech, she said, “Together we have brought democracy to disarmament and are reshaping international law.” This interview took place in Nagasaki City on 14 January 2018. She expressed her views on the role of transnational civil society and discussed the democratization of the disarmament process more broadly.
