description The whole novelistic oeuvre of Petar Saric made of six novels (The Great Ahavski Track, Tomorrow Comes the Master, Petrusha and Milusha, the Boy from Lastva, Sara and the latest one Mitar's America) testifies that this writer has been dealing with the problem of identity from the beginning of his creativity. The alienation problem and the one of identity complexity in the novel Mitar's America is giving new dimensions bearing in mind the fact in this novel it is about heroes which are displaced from the milieu they are belonging to ethnically, nationally, and culturally; first of all on Mitar, as theaction holder, and his narrow family members. A special narrative interest in Mitar's America was revealed by those heroes who could not unequivocally define their categorical belonging, but it was subject to permanent doubts and reviews. Narrator follows up with great attention the appearance and complexity of identity crises of characters until they have become obsessions which completely preoccupies their intellectual and active beings. The use of narrative technique, and in tune narration and innermonologue as well, provided precious insights in psychical condition of characters in those border situations. The most evident manifestation of Mitar's identity crisis represents his duality, which is in his stay in America very visible in narration, and upon arrival in home country was reflected in the existence of the figure of thedouble. Dual-phoniness, and poly-phoniness of hero's speech in narrative was accompanied by complex relationships establishment between different levels of his consciousness, especially through in tune narration and inner monologue, which had often had dialogic form. Upon his arrival in Crkvice, such insights ceased, but it gave only illusion on the unity of his consciousness.
