Summary: | The objective of this article is to highlight the validity that Paulo Freire's ideas against banking education and indifference for higher education. The methodology used is the conjugation of the bibliographic study and the participant observation of the author. Among the results are: reflection on higher education from Freire's fight against banking education and indifference; Freire's conception of education as a complex relation system between student and educator, focused on the activation of the student in the educational process, dialogue between him and the educator, union of doubt with epistemological curiosity, guiding role of ethics, conjugation of the rational and the affective; importance in this educational level of critical thinking; rejection of indifference linked basically to the student´s active role in his education.
