description The effect of zinc sulfate (0.1 – 50 mg/L) on seed germination and early stages of development of seedlings of three species of the genus Bidens L. Zinc sulfate solution in the whole range of concentrations indicated no significant effect on laboratory germination B. tripartita L. A significant decrease of laboratory germination B. frondosa L. was found at 50 mg/L. Zinc (50 mg/L) had a toxic effect on the growth and root development of seedlings of all species studied: namely, B. cernua and B. frondosa missed the main root, while B. tripartita had the root which was significantly reduced in length. The above-ground portion of seedlings was less responsive to the elevated concentrations of zinc in the medium. Investigated species are located in the following series in order of decreasing resistance to zinc sulfate: B. tripartita> B. frondosa> B. cernua
