Description
Summary:This article discusses a type of source, which is not much used from the point of view citations, yet particularly rich in this sense: the public documents issued by the municipality of Rome (or Senate) between the twelfth and the fourteenth centuries. Commenting on the citations that emerge from these acts (passages from Cassiodorus, Richard of Pofi, Pier delle Vigne), this essay reconstructs some writings and documentary practices of the Roman chancery; it reveals the presence of certain manuscripts within these environments, and eventually reflects on the methodological potentialities of this kind of research.
