Summary:Over the past decades, the rapid pace of vaccine development saved 37 million lives, mostly children. The ongoing corona virus disease (COVID-19) pandemic caused the death of more than 4 million worldwide. During 2020, to encounter the pandemic, scientists developed more than 300 vaccines projects against SARS-CoV (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2). In 2021, the results emerging from the clinical trials led to the approval and rollout of few vaccines in different countries. To date, at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been received by more than 3.81 billion people worldwide, equal to about 49.7 percent of the world population. This review was written to the aim of providing a snapshot of COVID-19 disease, highlighting the well-known vaccines, and, finally understanding the effect of mix and match vaccines from different types.
