description The objective of the investigation — to study in the age aspect the prevalence of hypertension among men and women of urban and rural population as a risk factor for diabetes type 2. The total number of surveyed among the rural population was 1,062 patients (of whom 461 men and 601 women) aged from 45 to 70 years and older, and in 1156 persons of urban population (241 men and 915 women). Hypertensive disease is quite common both in the residents of the rural and urban population of both sexes and different age groups and is very important risk factor for diabetes mellitus type 2, which must be taken into account in the survey. In the men of the rural region the disease is diagnosed in fewer cases than in women, and for residents of the city the situation is opposite — more often in men than in women of different age groups. This suggests that among young and middle-aged women — residents of the city, the prevalence of hypertension is less than that of among female residents of the rural region. The presence of overweight and II–III stage obesity contributes to an increased risk of hypertension.
