Description
Summary:This paper presents the performance analysis of a system configuration for 2R optical regeneration (re-amplification and re-shaping), which is based on Cross-Gain Compression (XGC) and Cross-Gain Modulation (XGM), which is configured on a Multiple Quantum Well Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (MQW-SOA). A logarithmic model of the SOA was developed and configured into an event discrete simulator. Simulation results show that XGC can satisfactorily achieve 2R Optical Regeneration, but they also show deficiencies when used in a multistage node configuration due to the existence of different amplification levels in the bits of the processed streams.
