Summary: | In this work we attempt to track the evolution of the New Christian community of Portuguese origin and how it was affected by the inquisitorial repression which took place during the first two decades of the eighteenth century. We shall concentrate on the integration process established by many of those families and how the memory of their origins – perceived in a positive or negative way –kept alive by the Inquisition itself and preserved by the endogamy of the converted family groups, stood in the way of this process. |
