| Summary: | At present, there is a contradiction between the need to improve the system of vocational education in Russian universities and the insufficient degree of scientific analysis of the content of higher vocational education in Russia. This contradiction allows us to formulate the research problem, which is to identify, characterize and compare the trends in the development of the system of higher professional education in Russia in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. The article, based on a comparative analysis of documents on education, curricula, programs, discusses the general and special characteristics of the content of education in the Russian higher school of the Soviet and post-Soviet periods on the example of the direction of training “Design and technological support of machine-building industries“.
