description Purpose. This article considers the problem of language equivalence, influence of William Shakespeare’s sonnets and plays on the lexical and ideological content of Emily Dickinson’s poetry, her language personality and world picture; analyses possible coincidences, identical ideas, and key images in the poetry of both authors; undertakes simultaneous analysis of W. Shakespeare’s sonnets and E. Dickinson’s poems; highlights themes and key images that are repeated in the work of both authors; researches the peculiarities of stylistic influence and expressive means of the English language on the example of works by W. Shakespeare and E. Dickinson. The object of research is the sonnets and plays of W. Shakespeare and poems by E. Dickinson. Method and methodology of the work. The research is based on linguistic, comparative and translation analysis. Contextual analysis is applied to the consideration of expressive vocabulary in poetic speech. The relevance of the research is due to the insufficient study of E. Dickinson`s language personality by domestic researchers, while the creative phenomenon of E. Dickinson and her work always remain in the focus of foreign linguistics and literary studies. An additional analysis of the ideological and figurative roll – call of the works of W. Shakespeare and E. Dickinson is required. Scientific novelty. The authors reveal the world of E. Dickinson’s linguistic personality, her worldview, and propose their own version of the translation. By means of comparative analysis, the coincidence of ideas, images, stylistic techniques, and expressive means of the studied authors are identified. Results. The authors substantiate the creation of a unified theatrical picture of the world, identify similar expressive means, interpretations of themes, images and metaphors in the works of E. Dickinson and W. Shakespeare. Inversion, repetition, and the use of epistolary as an artistic genre in the text of E. Dickinson’s works are the result of the stylistic influence of the great W. Shakespeare’s work. Practical implications. The results obtained can be used in translation and linguistics courses.
