Résumé: | The Greek public debt crisis has led to significant institutional and political changes, leading to an almost total disruption of the context in which unions act and changing the power relations within industrial relations. Thus, the Greek unions are now called to face new challenges and the question is whether trade unions still dispose the margins of initiatives and action required within this extremely unfavorable economic political context. To answer these questions, we will discuss the main features of trade union functioning and practices until 2010. Then, we will discuss the new situation that emerged following the austerity policies adopted and which affected trade unions directly or indirectly. Subsequently, we will examine the Greeks’ governments discourse relative to the repression of social and labor rights. Finally, we will see what were the union responses (mobilizations, pressure on government policies, judicial procedures, alliances, etc.). |
