description | This paper critically presents the new Slovenian translation of the Divine Liturgy by John Chrysostom and Basil the Great, which is the third in almost a hundred years, but the first to be made according to the Ruthenian Review (Old Church Slavonic) and above all, the first to be officially approved by Rome. Firstly, the article presents the historical and liturgical context of the origin, the first Slavonic translations, the structure and the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, and then gives some theoretical orientations on the modern translation of (Eastern) liturgical texts. Finally, the circumstances in which this new translation was made are explained, and some concrete translation issues and the reasons for their solution are presented. |
