Description
Summary:The article focuses on two populist experiences which developed in a context of modernization (Italy and Brazil), and were characterized by a strong relationship between a charismatic leader and the poorest. Italy and Brazil, in fact, were two interesting populist cases in global postwar scenario. Achille Lauro from the right, and Jânio Quadros from the left, acted as two successful outsiders. Both of them succeeded in gaining popular consensus at a grass-root level through bizarre and extremely effective electoral campaigns. Their speeches were mainly based on simple messages against bureaucracy and traditional political parties. Moreover, they perfectly knew how to deal with their people.
