description The cornsilk fly, Euxesta stigmatias Loew, is found in tropical and subtropical areas of the western hemisphere. It occurs throughout the Caribbean Islands, Mexico, Central and South America south to Bolivia and Paraguay, and in Florida. Historically it has been a pest in the United States only in southernmost Florida, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. However, in recent years cornsilk fly has become a serious pest in south-central Florida, and there are sporadic reports of its occurrence from a few other states. This document is EENY-224, one of a series of Featured Creatures from the Entomology and Nematology Department, Florida Cooperative Extension Service, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida.
