description In this posthumous contribution the author discusses the nature of Lykiarkheia, which has long been subject to discussion by several scholars. The position of author in this respect is that the period of the Lykiarkheia begins with the office of Grammateia, continued with the office of Arkhierosyne and that it was held for life only as an honorary title, as has been previously indicated by the author (Şahin 2006; Şahin 2012). The author argues the office of the Grammateus has been repeatedly ignored in recent studies, and presents here a much more detailed investigation concerning this issue, countering the common opinion on this matter, most recently reiterated by D. Reitzenstein (2011).Note of thr translator: I decided to translate this article because it was his last contribution which was lying on his table in his home, full of notes written on it, with the permission of his wife, Prof. Dr. N. Eda Akyürek Şahin. Maybe he would have added more information to it, but this cannot now be known, and the Turkish manuscript seemed to be completed and almost ready for publication.
