Description
Summary:Aim: Different species of the genus Vibrio are pathogenic for humans, the aim of this study was to standardize a multiplex PCR to identify four Vibrio species. Methods. 126 isolates environmental and 66 from the surveillance program INS were analyzed by PCR species-specific genes. Results. Of the total isolates, 124 were PCR positive for one of the species-specific genes. The PCR achieved the identification of the four target species (V. para-haemolyticus, V. alginolyticus, V. vulnificus and V. fluvialis), showing specificity and sensitivity between 1-2 ng/ul. Discussion. A multiplex PCR was developed that could provide reliable identification of four Vibrio species.
