description | Tunable resonant structures serve as the basis for many microwave devices (generators, filters, wavemeters). One of the varieties of these structures is waveguide-dielectric and waveguide-coaxial resonators on the evanescent waveguides (WDR and WCR).
The main problem for tunable resonators with a moving short-circuit (SC) plunger is a poor contact between the plunger and the waveguide walls, reducing the quality factor of the resonator. This problem can be solved by using the constrictor plungers.
In this paper, we have experimentally studied the peculiarities of the WCR tuning on the TEM oscillations using a resonance short-circuit (RSC) plunger, which is one of the varieties of the constrictor plungers. High efficiency of the RSC plunger is shown. The Q-factors of the WCR tunable with simple and RSC plungers are given.
The investigations were performed in the range of 6.7…12.7 GHz and suggested the possibility of applying the RSC plunger to improve the Q-factor of the tunable WCR at the TEM oscillations. Recommendations are given for the choice of the waveguide diameter. |
