Description
Summary:Abstract: This research work explores the dynamics of the interplay of cultural resilience and collective solidarity as fundamental pillar contributing to a peaceful and secure existence within African communities. Drawing inspiration from Wole Soyinka’s thought-provoking play Alápatà Àpáta, we have delved into the significance of these elements in the African context. From the lens of Postcolonial Literary Theory and Cultural Studies, we have unveiled the repercussions of cultural alienation resulting from colonialism and global influences. The erosion of cultural practices and the predominance of foreign languages serve as evidence of this alienation, leading to dissociation from traditional values and customs. Moreover, the research delves into the role of traditional wisdom and the way it contributes to the settlement of disputes through endogenous knowledge, divination, and a deep connection with Ifá. Alaba’s wisdom transcends the Western legal system, emphasising the significance of collective solidarity in Alápatà Àpáta in times of crisis. The study has concluded on the pertinence of cultural resilience, traditional wisdom and collective solidarity as pivotal foundations for peace and security in the African communities.
