Summary: | The article examines legal and social status of Russian soldier’s wives, their mentality, sociocultural character and their everyday life in the Russian Empire (XVIII – the beginning of the XX centuries) with the help of archives, reminiscences, statistics and ethnographic sources. The author researches soldier’s wives petitions, the attitude of central and local authorities towards them, their means of social adaptation. Are displayed the peculiarities of the soldier’s wives deviant behavior (prostitution, infanticide and others). The author also examines the activity of soldier’s wives organizations (soyuzov soldatok) in 1917, the structure of soldier’s families and the peculiarities of their demographic behavior. In this article are uncovered professional favors of soldier’s wives and their participation in the women emancipation movement in Russia. |
