description This article deals with the emergence of the Parti pirate in France and questions how new practices and new digital issues have an impact on the renewing of the political participation. Looking back on how the party was created is a key to identify its cultural heritage (geek culture, free culture, internet culture) and the political attitudes of its members. The analysis of their profile and the party's intern organization highlights the specificities of the pirates in term of age, gender and work. The article finally tackles the issue of online militantism and questions the particularities of partisan engagement in a broader and less conventional pirate nebula.
