Summary:This paper will discuss about the character of existential minimum as liberal or republican. To reach the answer, it´ll be necessary to know the conception of contemporary liberalism and republicanism, how the freedom was treated in both of those governments and what is the "minimum". Then it´ll be possible to respond the question of this paper. In conclusion, the answer reached is that existential minimum owns liberal and republican character. Liberal because the state have to guarantee minimum conditions to the people develop themselves in society and republican, after that, when they can contribute to the common good.
